WHO alarms its health operations in Somalia at risk
UN world health organization, WHO has stated that its health operations in Somalia are on the verge of collapse due to financial crisis.
WHO's spokesman said - if quick finance is not found quickly - the UN health agency would suspend its humanitarian tasks in Somalia as the result of lack of financial support from international community.
Speaking to the reporters in Geneva, Switzerland, the spokesman, Paul Garwood stated that WHO had already appealed for nearly $ 46 millions to carry out its humanitarian obligations in Somalia in 2010.
WHO spokesman robustly underscored that the organization had vaccinated millions of children in Somalia against fatal diseases as well as trained many Somali health workers in an effort the UN health body was striving to make reliable health workers on the ground to meet tasks in surgery, supervision and prevention against contiguous diseases.
Mr Paul Garwood, WHO's spokesman appealed to the international community to provide tangible and financial assistance to WHO to resume its works in Somalia.
The spokesman raised the recent clashes in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu saying that 48 people died and 400 others got injured and were hospitalized for treatment in March this year alone.
WHO is the greatest medical provider to Somalia's poorly equipped hospitals besides WHO runs many community health services in Somalia.
